First Grade Sea Otter News

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped with making the International Christmas Luncheon so amazing! We couldn’t have done it without you. And a huge THANK YOU for all the thoughtful gifts and script. I am so blessed to have such wonderful and generous students and families this year.

Over break it is a great idea to read and practice math daily. Here are some first grade goals you can practice at home:

-Fluently add and subtract to 10

-Skip counting by 1, 2, 5, or 10 from 1-120

-Mentally finding 10 more or 10 less than any number

There will be no reading homework assigned over break but please encourage your child to continue reading everyday.

Blessings on your family during this joyous time of year!

Special Notes

– No Star Sea Otter for the week of January 7th

First Grade Sea Otter News

We are about to begin our final school week of December and students will have completed almost four months of first grade! I hope you enjoyed this week’s Christmas concert, the students sang like angels and performed their best. We are also wrapping up learning about 20 countries in our Christmas Around The World Unit. We will be ready to celebrate all these cultures next week at our International Christmas Luncheon!

Absence Notification

Please notify me if you know your child will be absent during any of the days before Christmas break. We have lots of Christmas activities, gifts, and celebrations and I want to plan accordingly to make sure as many students as possible are included. Thanks!

Christmas Luncheon on Thursday- Free Dress of Christmas Best

Please bring your food (labeled with name of dish and country) to the classroom by 10:30. We will have outlets available if you need to keep something warm in your crockpot. If your child has any allergies, please bring a special dish for him/her. Please label “Contains Nuts” if your dish does so. We will eat our special lunch in Mrs. Jessup’s room and the food will be set out in Mrs. Peoples’ room. We would like the parents who volunteered to set up to come to the classroom by 10:15. This is a big undertaking and we appreciate all of your help to make it possible! This lunch will take the place of regular lunch/hot lunch of the day. Please still send a separate snack for later in the day.

If you have not signed up to bring in an item you may be assigned an item next week to help cover needed areas. Thank you for participating!

Report Cards

Please remember to sign and return the yellow copy in its envelope by Friday, December 21st. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s grades feel free to reach out to me.

First Grade Sea Otter News

This week students began learning subtraction strategies, discussed who St. Nicholas was and listened and wrote about Christmas Around the World. Students explored Christmas customs and even made ornaments to represent the different places they studied. On Wednesday, first graders did an excellent job participating in their first class mass. Then we celebrated the Immaculate Conception at a beautiful Mass Friday morning with the whole school.

Please return completed forms by next Friday, December 14th. Mrs. Jessup and I will review the forms, see what is needed to round out the list, and send home a confirmation next Monday, December 17th. Thank you in advance for your contributions!

Please keep an eye out for a volunteer sign up genius from the room parents for the day of the luncheon. We will have about 18 volunteer jobs total for both classes.
